Let’s be honest, mama. How many nights have you told yourself, “Just one more episode” or “Let me scroll a lil bit more before bed” — even though you’re exhausted?
Yeah… us too.

There’s a name for this thing we do — it’s called “momsomnia.” It’s that habit of delaying sleep just to get some uninterrupted, guilt-free time to yourself — after the baby is down, the dishes are done, and the house finally stops moving.
And while sleep is important (we know, we know 😴), so is your sanity.
Why We Do It: Me-Time Is Scarce
The truth is, most moms in Guyana don’t get much time for themselves — especially during the long August vacation. Between cooking, cleaning, helping with the kids, and still trying to hold down a job or small business… it’s A LOT.
So when the house finally gets quiet at night — that’s when we breathe. Maybe you:
- Watch something on Netflix with the volume low 👀
- Scroll TikTok or Facebook in peace without someone yelling “MAMAAAAA!”
- Read that book you’ve been “starting” for the past 6 months
- Or simply sit in silence and do nothing
That time — no matter how short — feels sacred. It’s like you’re finally YOU again, not just “Mommy.”
But… Your Sleep Still Matters

We’re not here to lecture you (we’re moms too!) — but burnout is real. And constantly sacrificing sleep every night can catch up with your body.
You might start feeling:
- Foggy and irritable (even more than usual)
- Low on patience
- More anxious or overwhelmed
- Physically drained all the time
The goal isn’t to cut out your me-time — it’s to protect it in a way that doesn’t wipe you out the next day.
Try This Instead
Here are a few realistic tips that might help:
💡 Schedule your me-time earlier. If you can sneak in 30 minutes during the day (when baby naps or the kids are playing), take it.
💡 Set a “wind-down” alarm. Give yourself a little reminder — “Okay girl, last scroll in 10 mins.”
💡 Protect one evening a week. Ask your partner, sister, or mom to help with the kids so you can have a full hour (or two!) to yourself — guilt-free.
💡 Redefine what me-time looks like. Maybe it’s sipping tea on the back step, relaxing in the hammock, journaling before bed, or even having a solo shower in peace.
You Deserve Rest AND Joy
This season of motherhood is intense — but mama, it doesn’t mean you should run on empty. You’re allowed to rest, to play, to feel like YOU again. Even if it’s just 15 minutes a night.
So tonight, whether you’re up late watching your favorite show or just enjoying the quiet — know this: you’re not alone. So many of us are doing the same thing.
But maybe… try to sneak in a little more sleep tonight too, okay? 💛
